Message Would the LGPL be sufficient to alleviate the concerns of the ArgoUML
priniciples? If so, could you make contact with the author to make this
change official in the licensing of Fujaba? This seems like it could be a
real boon to the development of ArgoUML.

I have met with the lead developer, Albert Zündorf, of Fujaba just
recently. It is indeed a very nice tool, although it is still much more
academic than Argo. What I liked most was tool they called Mr. Dobs that
was capable of monitoring the heap for runtime objects and present them
in an object diagram. Really cool. Also they were able to change the
representation from "object" to some other figure. That way they were
able to represent a little train systems with the trucks and trollies
and their according position similar to the phyiscal system. VERY cool.

Albert Zündorf is an assistent professor at the university of Paderborn
and Braunschweig. It seems he will be full professor quite soon. He has
a team of 12 or so students working on the tool. We talked about
integrating Argo and Fujaba and it seemed to me that both projects could
really gain from it. Fujaba has cool tools and techniques but the GUI is
(my impression) not as advanced as Argo. Also Fujaba is not very strict
about the UML standard. It has some extensions to UML and ignores other
things. The focus of the tool was more on their research interests than
a general UML tool like Argo.

Fujaba currenlty is under GPL-license. And it was repeatedly agreed on
the list that we can not accept GPL. But Albert Zündorf said, he would
have no problems with changing the license it that helps.

Regards, Marko

(I crossposted this to argouml-dev also, I think this is interesting for
the developers also, sorry if you receive this mail twice)
