Hi,
you can't just start the source code, it has to be compiled. For this
yuo need some additional stuff and a well prepared environment setup.
If you want to mess with the code (:-)), please try the 0.9.2 code or
even CVS, it comes with a README_compile.txt file, also you can find
documentation in the build.xml file that comes with it.

Cheers and happy hacking,
Toby

Message Dear List,

I am new to ArgoUML - a pretty cool program!

I've tried using it (v0.9.2) for a while that can be simply started by
clicking on two hyperlinks on http://argouml.tigris.org/ (which utilizes the
JavaWebStart).

Also, I downloaded the source files (v0.8.1a). However, I don't know how to
start ArgoUML v0.8.1a with the source files. I tried typing "java -jar
argouml.jar" but had no luck. Then I browsed the tigris website and
unfortunately didn't find any related doc. I'd really appreciate it if
anyone can help me to get started. Thanks for your help in advance.

Regards,

Albert

Message Have seen this before with other zip archives.
Note certain zip utilities are incompatible,
i.e. create a zip file with one utility and unzip it with another utility
will cause the unzipped files to have zero length.

Solution: Use another zip utility to unzip it (and not the one you
currently have)
. There are quite a few free ones which should work
I use the one that comes with the Java JDK, ie jar.exe, and this worked
for me.
So if you down load ArgoUML-0.8.1a.zip
and the path containing the file "jar.exe" is in your DOS/Windows "path"
variable
start a DOS prompt, use "CD" command to change directory to the directory
where the zip file is and type
  jar -xvf ArgoUML-0.8.1a.zip
This should unzip it correctly, and you should be able to run it with:
  java -jar argouml-0.8.1a.jar
or write a small bat file to do that. Note you will now have a file
  xml4j.jar. ;-)
HTH
