Message <FAQ>
<introduction>
Please specify your version of ARGO when making your requests for help.
For XML purists
you should know this document is not well formed. I used JEXT to put
this document
together, another Java Web Start based tool...cool tool but I'm not
familiar with it enough to make this document beautiful(no auto hard
return)
or help me write the
XML tags easily. If you know of a good tag text tool please pass it on!
As well I'm
looking for a DTD for faqs, it would make this daunting task a little
less time
consuming :).
To make this FAQ, as with all open source projects, as useful and
helpful as possible
 we count on the other
users and developers to correct misunderstandings, identify bugs, and
help
with the documentation!
<question>
How can you help you ask?
</question>
<answer>
Please copy paste the suspect text and send it to
me so that I can update the FAQ...we're working on a CVS of the FAQ so
that it's always
current and accurate :0)
</answer>
If you're looking at this document in your email application, do a
search for <question>
until you find what you're looking for...If you don't find it, type your
question between
the tags; for example like this: <question> Type your question
here.</question>
If you've got the answer or would like to update the answer do it like
this...
<answer> Type your answer here.</answer>
Of course a DTD needs to be put together to let the computer handle
all of this for us automatically! And again, if you've got ideas on this

please pass them on!
Enjoy!

<question>
Is there a users-manual for Argo?
</question>
<answer>
Not yet, but if you want to help... you can start taking screen grabs
and send them to me ddaniels at magic dot fr and we can post it to the site.
</answer>
<question>
I didn't see a "users" mailing list on the website. Is this the
appropriate place for "how do I do x" and "why doesn't y work" type of
questions?
</question>
<answer>
Yes, users at argouml dot tigris dot org is the place to ask your questions. The
developers are following
the postings here and very helpful in getting answers to your questions
quickly. Be it known
that there is no user-manual as yet and this FAQ is not complete...Rome
was not built in a day.
</answer>
<question>
What applications open PGML?
</question>
<answer>
</answer>
<ARGO 8.1>
<known_problems>
There are some synchronization problems and you will not
 see the changes in the class diagram.
</known_problems>
<question>
In version 0.8.1 I was able to use any multiplicity. In version 0.9.2
I only have a choice of some entries within a popup list. I cannot
use other than that list.
Is this a bug or a feature?
</question>
<answer>
A little of both. Multiplicity is now more of a full model element in
the
UML meta-model with an internal structure instead of just an arbitrary
string.
The combo box is much more usable in general. and I thought that the
edge cases didn't justify the complexity for the ability to add a custom
multiplicity (or I didn't have time to add an editor on the combo box
field, its been a while).
</answer>
<ARGO 9.1>
<question>
Is there commercial support for ARGO?
</question>
<answer>
See http://www.gentleware.com
</answer>
<question>
I created a collaboration diagram using verstion V0.9.1. The "Add
Message" button in toolbar is greyed out. Did I miss something to
activate it?
</question>
<answer>
First you have to connect two classifier roles with an association role,

select this association role and then you can specify a message on this
connection.
</answer>
<question>
Can I branch or fork stimulus in sequence diagram?
</question>
<answer>
This feature is not supported yet but it's planned to implement it in
near
future.
<answer></answer>
</Argo .9.1>

<Argo .9.2>
<question>
How to add messages to collaboration diagram associations?

I'm using version "0.9.1" (which is actually 0.9.2 I think ...) (It is
.9.2 if you downloaded
ARGO using Java Web Start).

Here's what I've tried:
1) create a 'ClassifierRole'
2) create another 'ClassifierRole'
3) create an 'AssociationRole' between the two classifiers

At this point I expected the 'Add Message' button to become enabled --
but it remains in the disabled state. Is this a bug, or am I (we?)
doing
something wrong?
</question>
<answer>
</answer>
<question>
I've tried to print my Argo diagrams but nothing happens. Is the print
function working?
</question>
<answer>
Not yet.
</answer>
<question>
Why does the version history indicate .9.1 when I open the new .9.2?
Have I made a mistake?
</question>
<answer>
No. Don't worry about the version history if you are using java web
start. The versioning history is a known issue but is not a problem. If
you used Java Web start, you have the right version.
</answer>
<question>
I imported a .jar file but I couldn't find what or where ARGO did
with the file it "parsed" as the message window indicated.
Can I reverse engineer a .jar file with Argo .9.2?
</question>
<answer>
ArgoUML cannot RE .jar Files, when we talk about traditional jar files,
which are but a collection of class files (*.class). It relies on
Source Files (*.java), which should be syntactically correct, i.e. they
can be
compiled.
</answer>
<question>
Where/how do I implement code for my methods?
</question>
<answer></answer>
<question>
How can I run my program ones I implemented succesfull my code?
</question>
<answer></answer>
<question>
Is ArgoUml meant to be able to compile code?
</question>
<answer></answer>
<question>
Is there a most simple "Hello world/universe" applet and application
example
to demonstrate performance of ArgoUml.
</question>
<answer></answer>
<question>
Is it possible to switch to 'real' UML Syntax, like 'Name : String' in
class diagrams?
</question>
<answer>
</answer>
<question>
Can you please tell me how to add instantiation methods like 'public
Person(String name)'without ArgoUML complaining about missing return
types (-> 'void??')?
</question>
<answer>
Someone else has to answer for 0.8, but in 0.9.2 you set the stereotype
<<create>> on the operation. The panel does not update the operation as
expected though, so you will have to press the "New operation" button
for it to take effect.
</answer>
<question>
I cant seem to get the add message button to be non-greyed out. Can
someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
</question>
<answer>
</answer>
<CVS>
<question>
Where do I get the CVS?
</question>
<answer>
You can reach it via normal cvs command (either in a tool or on the
command line). The server is the same as for ArgoUML (try
:pserver:guest@cvs.tigris.org:/cvs) and the name of the repository is
gef/src.
</answer>
<question>
Where can I find instructions for the CVS?
</question>
<answer>
The list is in README_COMPILE.txt and in build.xml, and the file
antrlall.jar is contained in the libs package available from
http://argouml.tigris.org/v09/ds4.html (this contains all additional
libs).
</answer>
<question>
Can I build sequence diagrams with ArgoUML?
</question>
<answer>
Please check the 0.9.2 developer release. It already has some support
for
sequence diagrams.
</answer>
<question>
I've seen comments all over the website like "don't use 0.9.2" because
of file saving/opening
problems. How likely is it that my diagrams will disappear if I use
0.9.2?
</question>
<answer>
Likely it won't work.
</answer>
<cvs>
<question>
Do I need to unpack the jar files?>
</question>
<answer>
No, you don't need to unpack the .jar files, just start java -jar
argouml.jar
</answer>
<question>
How do I compile the CVS?
</question>
<answer>
Download the latest antlrall.jar . Download the whole library package
downloaded the "ArgoUML-0.9.2-libs.zip" from
http://argouml.tigris.org/v09/ds4.html , put that in your lib dir,
remove the old build dir and try again. The CVS code should compile.
% cvs -z3 update -d -P
% ant clean
% ant run
Works well with JDK1.3SE from SUN.
</answer>
<question>
Does crtl+z work?
</question>
<answer>
Ctrl + Z does not work.
It's on the list of to dos on the developers list.
</answer>
<question>
What is the official name of the various work screens?
</question>
<answer>
</answer>
<question>
What's that super cool functionality of sending email to the expert on
the project?
Does is it work?
</question>
<answer>
Send email does not work at this time.
</answer>
<question>
When I double click on an object in the left pane I can't find it in my
diagrams.
Where is it?
</question>
<answer>
Double clicking to find an object only works when the visible diagram
 contains the object in question...however double clicking on the object
in the
 left hand column does not indicate which diagram the object might be
found
</answer>
<question>
I used the "remove" function and lost a bunch of my work. What happened?

</question>
<answer>
Use the remove key with care... this function is temperamental. Nor is
there is a
warning on deletion from model for sub packages in a parent
package...when deleting sub packages ARGO may delete more than just the
sub
package.
</answer>
<question>
How do I reduce the number of panes open in the window?
</question>
<answer>
</answer>
<question>
What does "stimulus" mean?
</question>
<answer>
It's a stereotype in UML.
</answer>
<question>
I cannot scroll to classes that are off screen. What's up?
</question>
<answer>
Known bug.
</answer>
<question>
I tried to add an actor to the sequence diagram but ARGO wouldn't let
me. What's up?
</question>
<answer>
At this time an actor cannot be added to the sequence diagram.
</answer>
<question>
</question>
<answer>
At this time ARGO does not allow changing the order of sequence objects.

</answer>

<question>
How do I attach notes to a class?
</question>
<answer>
ARGO does not allow attaching notes to the classes. This is will
hopefully be
implemented with a connection to java docs.
</answer>

<question>
How do I use ARGO for CVS?
</question>
<answer>
At this time there is no way of saving the authorship of a UML artifact
in
in ARGO.

Of course, my answers maybe wrong. I'm just a user, not a
developer, nor am I totally current. Like many of the developers
this is something I work on in very valuable spare time.
