I have the same issue with the Windows build.
What happens is that a .xmi file is created in C:/Users/user/AppData/Local/Temp
when ArgoUML is started. This .xmi file is referenced in the .uml file. When
ArgoUML is closed and then restarted )e.g. the next day, a new .xmi file is
created and the old one disappears, so the work is lost.

just experienced the very same sympoms after exporting to c++.

My work of the last hours is irrecoverably lost. Actually, this already happened
the second time, since the first one I try to backup/git more often.

I will consider switching to another UML tool now, this is the worst thing that
could happen.

I have this same problem. I attached my .zargo file. I got this after
working on a sequence diagram. I work on the same project on multiple
computers. It looks like it is trying to find a temp model.

XMI external reference error attempting to read :
file:/C:/Users/cusickm/AppData/Local/Temp/zargo_model_3524570262618953824.xm

error message : org.argouml.model.XmiReferenceException:

Please check that the referenced file is available.
If the reference refers to a profile, make sure that the profile is
available by doing the following:
(1) Either load a module which contains that profile,
(2) or make sure that the URL can be resolved,
(3) or load it as a user defined profile in the profile configuration in the
edit->settings dialog.

I started trying to learn the .xmi file. I'm assuming I have to change the
href='/C:/Users/cusickm/AppData/Local/Temp/zargo_model_3524570262618953824.x
mi to an actual source.

I'm not quite sure where to find this info.

I thank you for your time,

Lee

I'm not sure to understand Arcangelo posts.
Is it an uml file that is corrupt ? Are the classes in this UML file, and this UML file
under GIT ?

If true, you can attach the uml file if you want us to have a look for solve problem ?

Hello,
I had the same problem with my open source project. It's all under git, but I lost a lot of class... Is
there any solution?

Based on the latest feedback my current assumption is that some user interaction
on the state machine is causing some internal corruption of the model before it
is saved.

Some more precise reproduction conditions would be very useful.

Yesterday I encountered the same problem with the Windows version of AgroUML
0.34. The error was similar:

XMI external reference error attempting to read:
file:/C:/Users/user/AppData/Local/Temp/zargo_model_2186427374741239663.xmi

I unpacked the zargo file and compared the included .xmi file with an .xmi file
of a working zargo file, both containing state machines. I discovered several
things:

- The not working files did not contain a UML:Model, UML:Namespace.ownedElement,
UML:StateMachine, UML:StateMachine.top, UML:CompositeState,
UML:CompositeState.subvertex and UML:StateMachine.transitions element. All
UML:SimpleState, UML:Pseudostate and UML:Transition elements were stored
sequentially as direct childs of XMI.content.

- Three SimpleStates and one Transition were missing in this XMI file but they
were referenced at several places (e.g. in a UML:Transition.source). However,
instead of using xmi.idref the reference was given in an href attribute.

- The normal idrefs looked like
"-122-91-76--34--333f19c5:14b4f09717d:-8000:0000000000000992". However, the
hrefs looked like
"file:/C:/Users/user/AppData/Local/Temp/zargo_model_2186427374741239663.xmi#-64--88-56-1-1d1b49ce:14b4b85c308:-8000:000000000000086B".
Here, the filename from the error message is stored. I don't know how exactly
the ids are built, but it the first two parts of the id look completely different.

- If I remember correctly I started the state machine, saved it, closed
ZargoUML, opened the file later on again and continued working. The missing
states are exactly the ones that I drew during the first run.

- Interestingly, the pgml file for the state machine contained all states and
transitions. So, I figured out the ids of the missing states and transitions and
fixed the xmi file manually, zipped it - and it's opening fine now.

It looks like the files is relying on 3 interfaces that are defined in another
model. Did you have smoe profile or plugin installed when this was created that
the file may be dependant on?

If you can't find those then I may be able to edit the file to put some interfaces
in place. Not tonight though as its very late here.

I'm a little concerned over what success I'll have as all the editors I try don't
like some the character sets in the file so some diagram names may get lost.

First look on your system for a copy of the auto-archive file. that would be a
.uml~ or .zargo~ file depending on what you saved as. It may be that you can get
back the date from your previous save (just rename to another file with the tilde
removed).

If this gets you nowhere then send me a copy of the corrupt file and I'll see if I
can salvage anything from it.
